The Concept

The Lantern is a 7-story mixed use development undergoing an extensive internal and external refurbishment project designed by Marks Barfield Architects. Located at the corner of Drummond Street and Hampstead Road, in the London Borough of Camden, the development focuses on wellbeing and sustainability, with BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated offices, retail and residential accommodations, and involves extensive improvements to existing public space and the inclusion of green space.
The commercial area is mostly composed by curtain wall brick panels, while the residential part features balconies with lateral natural stone cladding, GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) soffits and sliding doors. The scheme incorporates a large bespoke steel and glass and timber atrium with a sloped trapezoidal roof, whilst the feature corner ‘Lantern’ is a three dimensional diamond shaped, fully suspended, folded steel and glass construction. The scope includes clear glass internal screens that give an extraordinary bright effect to the floorplans.
