Located on a significant City of London site, the scheme incorporates a section of the original London Wall – from which it takes its name – and remains of the Medieval St Alphage Church. The concept referenced the history of the site by restoring the ruins and making them a central part of the development thus connecting modern business with historic London.
The project is comprised of two state-of-the-art office towers, respectively 12 and 16 stories high, totaling approx. 46,000 sqm (500,000 sq ft) of Grade A office space surrounded by nearly 7,400 sqm (80,000 sq ft) of public green space and landscaped roof terraces offering views and public access to the historical heritage. Influenced by the flint used in the site’s historical ruins, the new structures are enveloped by a heavily insulated, metal framed, full height double glazed façade system combining the use of pale glass reinforced concrete panels with contrasting, fluid dark blue glazed ceramic elements. A further, striking feature of the complex is the cantilevering of the steel frame out above London Wall. The project winner of the RIBA London Award 2019, has also achieved an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
Design & engineering, manufacture and installation of the external envelope of both buildings with unitized system construction with glass/terracotta and glass/GRC panels and stick system construction at the ground floor, soffits clad with a terracotta/GRC rainscreen for an overall area of 36,000 sqm (387,500 sq ft).
