The Concept

One Fen Court, at the heart of the London City cluster, offers modern office space with several shops at the ground floor; it features one of the biggest rooftop gardens in the City as well as restaurants. Eric Parry Architects have designed an iconic building, 69 m high (226 ft), with a variety of materials. The upper floors of the glazed façade (levels 10 to 14), which are set back from the main building create a constantly changing appearance due to varying daylight and weather conditions. This effect results from the dichroic glass, which has been used for the first time for the inclined and bent Closed Cavity Façade (CCF). In addition, Gartner has clad the building with a 10 m / 33 ft high steel mullion-transom façade at ground level using precast concrete cladded pillars. The unitized main façade with its integrated terracotta plates also changes its appearance due to the flip-flop paint of the brise soleil profiles.
