The Concept

Brickell City Centre brings three levels of unparalleled shopping, dining and entertainment. Several buildings and high-rises of the centre, are connected by a unique architectural feature: the glazed climate ribbon. It is a 340-m-long (1,115 ft) steel and glass roof structure that protects pedestrians and visitors not only from the weather but also offers an ecological solution to improve the micro-climate of the public spaces through shading and natural ventilation. The climate ribbon is T-shaped and winding along between the buildings. The complex geometry of the facetted canopy was designed using 3D computer models. With a span of approx. 30 m (98.4 ft) and special shading elements with a glass fiber-reinforced membrane, it resulted in a huge challenge for both the steel construction and the logistics.
