At the heart of Roche’s Group headquarters in Basel lies the pRED Center – a new research and development complex designed to accelerate pharmaceutical innovation and collaboration.

The centre, which opened in September 2024, is made up of four separate buildings designed with input from Roche teams on the ideal facilities and technology. Sustainability was a high priority from the outset, with energy-efficient features incorporated throughout the construction of the pRED Center.

The project

The concept

The pRED Center consists of four buildings – a convention centre, an office building, and two high-rise laboratory buildings. The buildings are staggered in height, with the tallest rising to 114m. The complex is located alongside Roche Building 1, one of the tallest buildings in Switzerland, which Gartner also worked on.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed approximately 41,000 sqm of façade across the four buildings. This included a wide range of Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) systems, including integrated canopies, doors, spandrel units and blinds, and fixed sun protection. We also supplied aluminium façade, double-skin façade, stick-system façade, wooden windows, revolving doors, sliding doors, skylights and connecting bridges.
