London Wall Place connects modern business to the city’s past by incorporating ruins into a new commercial development.

The site includes a section of the original London Wall (from which it takes its name) and the remains of the medieval St Alphage Church. The development is comprised of two state-of-the-art office towers, 12 and 16 storeys high, surrounded by nearly 7,400 sqm of public green space and landscaped roof terraces offering views and public access to the heritage.

The project

The concept

Influenced by the flint used in the site’s historical ruins, the new buildings are enveloped in a heavily insulated, metal framed, double glazed façade system. This combines pale glass reinforced concrete panels with dark blue glazed ceramic elements. A striking feature of the complex is the cantilevering of the steel frame above London Wall.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed the external envelope for both buildings. In total, we supplied 36,000 sqm of façade, including unitised glass/terracotta and glass/GRC panels, stick system construction at the ground floor, and soffits clad with a terracotta/GRC rainscreen.
