Hermès Prince’s Building - Permasteelisa Group

Hermès Prince’s Building

Hong Kong, China

This stunning Hermès store was created as part of the complex renovation of Hong Kong’s landmark Prince’s Building, which dates back to 1965.

Architect RDAI took inspiration from local bamboo scaffolding when designing both the exterior and interior of the store. The façade is made up of a total of 8km of rectangular tubes and rises a further two storeys above the three-level retail space, accentuating Hermès presence at a prominent crossroads in the city.

The project

The concept

The building’s exterior design was inspired by the bamboo scaffolding construction techniques widely used in Hong Kong and southern China. The unique anodised aluminium façade, combined with extensive use of glass, allows a radiant golden light to permeate the store.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, supplied and installed a total of 640 sqm of façade. We wrapped aluminium tubes in a distinctive copper-coloured PVDF (Polyvinylidene Difluoride) coating, and arranged them in two rows on an elaborate aluminium and steel bracket system. This unique structure was combined with high-performance insulated glass on both façades.
