Hermès Harbour City

Hong Kong, China

The Hermès store in Hong Kong’s Harbour City shopping mall invites a sense of curiosity and discovery, welcoming customers and encouraging them to explore the collections in a space that reflects the brand’s creativity and innovative spirit.

The façade is an expression of Hermès’ craftsmanship and use of exceptional materials. Undulating aluminium tiles create an ever-changing, shimmering effect for pedestrians. Below this, the storefront glows with colour through alternating transparent, translucent and opaque windows.

The project

The concept

The concept for the upper façade, by French architects RDAI, was to reflect the scales of a dragon, with organic curves and ridges reminiscent of Hong Kong’s masonry wall trees. The design includes extensive glass, to allow natural light and create a golden glow.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, supplied and installed the façade, including over 3,300 aluminium panels anodised with copper flake (made in Germany). To create the tilted angles of the panels, we used 28 different aluminium extrusions that were preassembled in the factory to control tolerance and quality. We made the lower façade using book-matched amber marble stone from China, along with jumbo-sized laminated, extra-clear, low-iron glass show windows.
