Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar is one of the most architecturally important airports in the world.

Constructing the immense airport on land reclaimed from the sea was a long and complex process. Ten years on from its opening in 2014, it was still being voted the world’s best airport in the Skytrax World Airport Awards – often called the Oscars of the airport industry. A truly legendary transport hub!

The project

The concept

The passenger terminal, designed by HOK, pays homage to Qatar’s rich cultural heritage, echoing the dunes of the desert and the waves of the ocean. A feeling of lightness in the design is emphasised by the glass façades that over three sides of the terminal.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed the steel-and-glass façades for the entire hub – an astonishing 200,000 sqm in total, including more than 4,300 tonnes of architecturally exposed steelwork.

Inside the airport, we designed, supplied and installed 25,500 sqm of interior packages, including high-end counters, premium lounges and prime retail spaces. Glazed features dominate throughout, including feature walls, waterfalls, indoor gardens, panoramic lifts and decorative glass fins. The premium lounges alone involved more than 6,000 architectural drawings!
