Citi Tower – 25 Canada Square (Refurbishment)

When the 200m high Citi Tower in Canary Wharf was completed in 2001, it was the second-tallest building in the UK. Now it is being refurbished to create a stunning workplace fit for the future.

The project is believed to be the largest active commercial retrofit project in Europe. The refurbished tower will reflect the changing nature of work, with greater emphasis on shared spaces where colleagues can come together and facilities for flexible, agile working.

The project

The concept

US bank Citigroup’s decision to renovate the 130,000 sqm building signals its commitment to sustainability and office working. The design creates a new public space at ground floor level, allowing visitors to cross between Canary Wharf’s green spaces – Canada Square and Jubilee Park.

What did we do?

Our work has focused on three main areas of the building – the plaza, levels 17 to 19, and levels 41 and 42. We removed and disposed of the existing façade. We then designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 9,900 sqm of new façade, including steel stick system, unitised façade, stainless steel rain screen cladding, louvre systems, canopies, standing seam aluminium roofs, soffits and balustrades.
