The Byte building in Bern – home to the IT department of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) – features a striking façade created using our Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) technology.

The masterplan for the development of this area of the city included clear specifications about the height and appearance of new buildings. The 94m long and 29m wide building, with a total height of 34m, complements the local urban cityscape.

The project

The concept

The main façade features finely structured, floor-to-ceiling units. On the west and east sides, loggias are integrated into the CCF and a sun protection system provides further comfort and convenience for people working in the offices and conference rooms. Specially perforated louvres offer users good transparency. The ground floor features an arcade with facilities for public use, reaching from the southwest corner to the two-storey main entrance on the west side.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) from levels 1 to 7, stick-system façade at the ground floor, different door types, revolving doors, automatic sliding doors and swing doors, loggia as terrace cladding and glass balustrade. The overall area supplied was around 7,300 sqm.
