The Brunel Building is a 17-storey tower featuring a striking diagrid structure. Located opposite Paddington Station, the 22,600 sqm building has transformed an urban site, offering office, retail and restaurant space. An innovative steel exoskeleton, which reflects the area’s engineering heritage, is central to the tower’s design and functionality.

The impressive building has proved popular with tenants – 100% of the space was pre-let before practical completion. Prioritising sustainability, it achieved both BREEAM Excellent and LEED Gold certification.

The project

The concept

Located next to a canal and above two tube tunnels, the Brunel Building demanded a bold yet functional design. The innovative steel exoskeleton addresses the site’s constraints while creating column-free floorplates and extensive natural light. This design feature also helps to shade the façade, reducing energy consumption.

What did we do?

We designed, manufactured and installed 11,000 sqm of façade with frameless double-glazed panels. The cladding is supported by an insulated spandrel system with a perforated rainscreen and aluminium profile. The aluminium used in the façade incorporates 65% recycled material.
