3 World Trade Center, completed in 2018, is a 329m tall skyscraper located opposite the World Trade Center Memorial and Cultural Center in Manhattan, New York.

The 69-storey building has a total floor area of 2.5 million square feet – the podium houses retail and trading floor space, while the remaining levels provide office space. It is known for its distinctive steel-framed façade, which reduces in mass as it rises towards the sky to complement its relationship to the space between the memorial water pools. Sustainable features were incorporated into the design to reduce energy use.

The project

The concept

The entirely glass-clad tower consists of a reinforced concrete core encased by an external structural steel frame. The building features floor-to-ceiling glass. All four corners and each floor plate are column-free to create an open workspace environment.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed a total of 93,600 sqm – over 1 million sq ft – of façade. This included glass and single-skin curtain wall system, façade podium with oversized units and cable net wall, and ornamental glass and metal work.
