The newly constructed headquarters of the US bank JPMorganChase at 270 Park Avenue is the sixth tallest skyscraper in New York. Working in close collaboration with New Hudson Façades, our Gartner brand was privileged to create the podium for the stunning new tower.

Rising to 423m between the Rockefeller Center and the Chrysler Building, 270 Park Avenue offers approximately 230,000 sqm of office space for around 14,000 employees. Gartner constructed the sophisticated 21m-high podium and entrance area for the building, which incorporates 10,500 architectural cylinders designed, engineered and fabricated at our specialist facility in Germany.

The project

The concept

The architectural cylinders contribute to the striking appearance of the 21m high podium, providing a fitting entrance for this stunning new skyscraper. Sustainability is at the heart of the building’s design, which employs intelligent building technology – sensors, AI and machine learning systems – to predict, respond and adapt to energy needs. Advanced water storage and reuse systems reduce water storage by more than 40%, and outdoor terraces feature natural green space and planting.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered and manufactured a total of 11,480 sqm of façade for the podium, including 3,200 sqm of steel and glass structure, four canopies (1,000 sqm), glass façade, louvre façade, fan cladding, and three different types of skylights.

The aluminium cylinders are installed in aluminium and steel frames, which were prefabricated and assembled in Germany. Due to the geometry and arrangement of the 10,500 architectural cylinders, the 170 façade elements are all unique pieces, with a maximum width of 12m and a maximum weight of 2 tons.
