At a height of 278m, 22 Bishopsgate is the tallest skyscraper in the City of London and the tallest in the world to feature Permasteelisa Group’s highly sustainable Closed Cavity Façade technology.

Completed in 2020, the 62-storey building is mostly office space, with a bike park, a food hall, a public gym, and a free public viewing gallery on the 58th floor. The entrance hall is a multi-level foyer conceived as an art gallery, with curated temporary art exhibits.

The project

The concept

The 23-sided, faceted glass body is shaped to respect views over the city and creates a strong, calm backdrop to the surrounding towers and the neighbouring historic buildings of the Bank of England. The building was designed and engineered for optimum sustainability.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 67,000 sqm of Closed Cavity Façade (CCF), and supplied steel stick system façade for the entrance area. The closed cavity accommodates motorised dual-colour venetian blinds, providing sun and glare protection. Each storey-high façade unit features structural glazing sealing and low-E coating on the inside, and LSG panes with selective coating on the outside.
