Permasteelisa Group commits to science based targets for reducing carbon emissions
Permasteelisa Group has taken a major step on its journey to net-zero carbon by committing to the Science Based Target initiative’s near-term (5 to 10 year) targets to reduce company-wide emissions in line with climate science.
Permasteelisa Group is already seen as an industry leader in sustainability, innovating in low-carbon technology and being the first specialist in the world to achieve an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for a bespoke façade.
By joining the SBTi, the company is ensuring its climate action globally aligns with the latest science and with the Paris Agreement’s goals of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Anna Foden, Head of Sustainability for Permasteelisa Group, comments: “The construction sector is a significant contributor to global emissions. Our commitment to SBTi’s near-term targets to reduce our value chain emissions in line with 1.5°C reflects how serious and transparent we are about our carbon reduction plans.
“Ambitious, science-based targets are crucial for mitigating climate change and working towards a net-zero future.”
Lee Marks, Group COO, adds: “Independent validation of our near-term climate target by SBTi reflects our strong environmental stewardship and consolidates our position as a global leader in low-carbon façade solutions.
“Our commitment to SBTi targets will further our work in identifying and implementing innovative carbon-reduction solutions across our value chain, leading to operational efficiencies and, in the long term, helping our clients to achieve their own net-zero carbon targets.”
The SBTi is a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
