Permasteelisa projects EY Centre and Shanghai World Financial Center among the winners of CTBUH 2018 Awards

Permasteelisa projects EY Centre and Shanghai World Financial Center among the winners of CTBUH 2018 Awards

Chicago, June 4th, 2018 – The Council of Tall Building and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the world’s leading resource for professionals focused on the inception, design, construction, and operation of tall buildings and future cities, has announced the winning projects of the eight different award categories.

Permasteelisa Group has had two projects awarded:

the EY Centre (Sydney, Australia) won the Construction award, while the Shanghai World Financial Center (Shanghai, China) obtained the prestigious 10-year award.

The awards have been assigned 31 May 2018, during the 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference in Chicago, where the 46 nominees have competed in front of an international audience and live juries for winning distinctions in the eight different award categories.

Permasteelisa Group had been nominated for five projects and managed to win two awards, witnessing the constant ability to design and build innovative and avant-garde architectural works alongside the world’s greatest in contemporary architecture, by using advanced technology and eco-sustainable solutions.

The Construction Award recognizes the construction excellence in a tall building project, made evident by the quality in construction, the technology and the proficient execution of the design. Located in Sidney, the EY Centre has quickly become a landmark building amidst its plain-looking neighbors thanks to its special façade. Based on the well-known and appreciated mfree-SCCF – Moisture Free Sustainable Closed Cavity Façade – the Permasteelisa proprietary technology with a proven track-record of more than 20 projects in Europe, Asia and Middle East, the façade of the EY Centre is a very first of its kind because of the revolutionary use of timber. The result is a state-of-the-art high-transparency and high-performance glass skin equipped, in the inner cavity, with timber venetian blinds that adjust automatically with the changing angle of the sun’s rays. This innovative solution, that contributes to donate the building a unique “wooden” appearance, offers all the advantages of the “normal” mfree-SCCF façades: among others, a larger net-lettable area and maximum freedom in the design of the interiors because no access to the cavity is required, reduced long-term façade cavity cleaning costs as well as no condensation risk inside the façade cavities.

The 10 Year Award, the second award obtained by Permasteelisa Group, recognizes proven value and performance over a period of time, which is why the Shanghai World Financial Center was chosen as winning project. Located in the heart of the Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone of Shanghai, this 101-story project is designed to accommodate future glass replacement and cleaning as the mullion-and-transom frame’s form and cover can be removed from the inside. Moreover, the multi-layered glass curtain wall improves the efficiency of the air conditioning system, thus contributing to a better use of energy. Its design has indeed allowed the building to endure as a lasting hallmark of the city’s skyline 10 years later, which explains the award of the CTBUH which recognizes not only the extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment, but also the achievement in sustainability at the highest and broadest level .

The prestigious results we obtained at CTBUH 2018 Awards, with two of our projects announced as winners and other three nominated among the finalists, prove the quality of our innovative and advanced technical solutions, coupled with the ability to turn the ideas of the most visionary architects into reality,” commented the CEO of Permasteelisa Group, Riccardo Mollo. “Our extraordinary capabilities in designing, engineering, manufacturing and installation of state-of-art facades and cladding solutions make our Group the partner of choice for the realization of the most iconic and representative buildings in the world.
