Taipei 101

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei 101 was the world’s tallest building from its completion in 2004 until 2010, when the Burj Khalifa in Dubai opened.

Named for its 101 storeys, Taipei 101 has become a major tourist attraction, offering spectacular views from its observation platforms, exclusive shopping, restaurants and offices. The building’s podium is enclosed by a 42m high glass skylight, creating one of the world’s largest indoor public spaces.

The project

The concept

With its 101-storey towering presence comprising of stacked cubes, the building nods to traditional pagoda architecture while embodying the spirit of innovation that characterises Taiwan today. The slanted façade was designed to maximise the penetration of natural light without any reflective glare.

What did we do?

We designed, manufactured, engineered and installed over 125,000 sqm of a pressure-equalised, unitised façade system engineered to withstand seismic and typhoon loadings. The high-tech, insulated glazing was designed to offer broad vision while saving energy and offering comfort. We also provided a range of systems for the seven-storey podium – skylights, aluminium hook-on systems, stainless steel and granite shopfronts, complex canopy designs, and point system glazing.
