Rising to 178m, Roche Building 1 is one of the tallest and most distinctive skyscrapers in Switzerland.

Home to the Roche pharmaceutical group, Building 1 is a 41-storey office block featuring a range of sustainability features. The building’s terraced wedge shape, which slants down towards the west and almost vertically to the east, encourages communication and collaboration by offering open, flexible workspaces and shared facilities. The stepped design also creates outdoor terraces while its slim shape allows for excellent natural light and ventilation throughout.

The project

The concept

The project involved the installation of an advanced Closed Cavity Façade (CCF) for the building’s unique wedge-shaped design as well as the west-facing terraces. The CCF had to adapt to diverse configurations and provide highly effective solar shading.

What did we do?

We designed, produced and installed 38,800 sqm of façade featuring transparent glazing and a special fire-rated section.
