King Juan Carlos University Hospital is a public hospital designed with a focus on light, peace and aesthetics to support patients’ recovery.

The building is constructed on a site that stretches to over 1 million sq ft and is part of a public health network. The building is divided vertically into two distinct units – patient areas in a three-storey base, and hospitalisation areas housed in two oval units that sit on top. Three parallel modules in the base provide healthcare, outpatient diagnostics, and treatment facilities.

The project

The concept

The two oval units are clad with circular glass panes. Sunlight filters in through tilted roof canopies. The ventilated façade, supported by stainless steel arms, is textured with a diamond pattern of dimpled glass panels, each of which has a surface of white ceramic frits to allow clear views from inside.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed a total of 16,000 sqm of façade, including curtain wall, circular glass on the exterior façade and entrance cubes.
