Glòries Tower

Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Glòries Tower, which was completed in 2005, marks the entrance to Barcelona’s technological district and, at 144m high, brings a contemporary edge to the city’s skyline.

The tower offers 30,000 sqm of commercial space over 35 floors. Its shape represents a geyser rising into the air and is evocative of Monserrat, a mountain that forms a backdrop to the Barcelona horizon.

The project

The concept

Designed by award-wining architectural studio Jean Nouvel, the tower consists of two non-concentric cylinders with oval floors. The building’s core – up to the 26th floor – is made of reinforced concrete wrapped in corrugated, lacquered aluminium plates. The entire surface is then covered in transparent, translucent glass panes that function as a sunshade and create the effect of fluid water thanks to the tones of colour and light reflected on the surface by the aluminium in the day and by 4,500 LED devices at night.

What did we do?

We designed, manufactured, engineered and installed 16,000 sqm of façade for the building. This included 4,500 glass panes, a glass dome for the top of the building, and a series of rectilinear windows.
