The Garibaldi Towers are two landmark 23-storey skyscrapers near the Porta Garibaldi railway station in Milan, Italy.

Constructed in the late 1980s to house the offices of the Italian state railways, both towers were used for service industries and office space and, over the years, began to show signs of wear and tear. In 2012, the towers underwent a complete renovation of the envelope that dramatically increased both their aesthetic appearance and sustainability, incorporating technologies like geothermal energy, solar panels and natural ventilation.

The project

The concept

Architectural requirements dictated the unusual geometry of the external skin of the main façade, giving the two practically identical towers an innovative new look. The overall architectural envelope has a surface area of 25,000 sqm.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed a total of 10,000 sqm of double-skin curtain wall, 7,200 sqm of single-skin curtain wall and 6,600 sqm of stone curtain wall for the towers’ renovation.
