Citypoint

London, UK

Originally built in 1967 and reimagined in 2000, the Citypoint building stands out in London’s Square Mile for its bold architecture and towering height.

Originally a 35-storey, 122m high office building, Citypoint (then called Britannic House) was the first tower in the City of London to be taller than St Paul’s Cathedral. It underwent extensive renovation in 2000 and today is primarily used as office space, with retail and leisure facilities on the ground floor, including a public outdoor space used for events and art exhibitions.

The project

The concept

In 2000, architect Sheppard Robson led a major renovation of the tower, which involved adding floor space, increasing the building’s height to 127m and adding a podium with extra office and terrace space. The building’s profile was softened with curved corners and a rounded glass bow on the south elevation. Once renovated, the building was renamed Citypoint.
