Sustainability – protecting our planet

Scroll down

Our work in this area contributes to the exceptionally high performance of our façades, ensuring they enhance the wellbeing and productivity of occupants, are cost-effective to operate and maintain, and are durable and long-lasting.

Our four focus areas

Decarbonisation

We actively seek to reduce carbon emissions throughout our value chain, from design, material sourcing and manufacturing, to transportation, installation and caring for façades. We take a holistic approach to understanding how design solutions contribute to the whole-life carbon of our projects and our own carbon reduction targets, knowing there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Our bespoke façade systems mean that we create bespoke façade Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), working with multiple design options as early as possible to find a solution within the wider parameters of each project.

Climate resilience

We are committed to minimising our contribution to climate change through innovative designs that respond to ever-increasing extreme climate events and taking a sensitive approach to our surroundings at our manufacturing facilities. We rigorously manage environmental risks associated with our operations and adhere to all relevant environmental regulations and legislation.

Resource efficiency and circularity

We strive to minimise resource consumption, reduce waste generation and promote circular economy principles in our design, manufacturing, installation and façade care processes. We consider the environmental impact of our façade solutions throughout their lifecycle, with the goal of extending service life as long as possible. Participating in the circularity of our existing product, from design inception to deconstruction, is a key driver of our current innovation focus.

Social responsibility

We are committed to investing in people and communities, and foster a diverse and inclusive workplace that values the unique perspectives and talents of all employees. Our long-established apprenticeship programmes ensure we’re tapping into the next generation of top talent. We have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and are committed to upholding human rights throughout our operations and supply chain. We prioritise the sourcing of sustainable and ethically-produced materials, and giving back to the communities in which we work.

Our journey to net zero carbon

Reporting emissions

Permasteelisa Group is committed to a science-based approach to net zero that extends to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. This drives innovation in how we design, manufacture, install and maintain our façades. We are committed to rigorously and transparently tracking, reducing and reporting our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions (the majority of our impact lies in Scope 3).

Changing processes

To lower our carbon emissions and contribute to our clients’ net zero carbon targets, we are committed to a fundamental shift in our processes, embracing circular economy principles and actively collaborating to minimise our collective environmental footprint across the globe.

A Group-wide approach

We are implementing Group-wide strategies at each stage of our value chain – our pursuit of net zero is intrinsically linked to the value we deliver to our clients.

Environmental Product Declarations

By providing detailed EPDs for our bespoke façades, we empower informed decision-making and enable our clients to achieve their own carbon reduction targets.

Towards low-carbon façades

We believe that through transparency, innovation and a shared commitment to a low-carbon future, together we can create a built environment that is both aesthetically outstanding and environmentally responsible, leaving a positive legacy for generations to come. To this end, we optimise every stage of the façade development process to reduce carbon.

End-to-end sustainability

Our Group’s end-to-end approach to projects – from early engagement and design as a solution enabler, through to production, installation and aftercare as a solution provider – puts us in a powerful position to influence the sustainability of the façades we create at every stage.

Designing in sustainability

Each of our façades has a unique design, tailored to meet the architect’s vision and project-specific technical and performance requirements. In design, we leverage advanced digital tools and lifecycle assessment methodologies to optimise material usage, analyse energy efficiency, and reduce embodied carbon.

Material matters

Our material sourcing prioritises suppliers committed to sustainable practices and low-carbon alternatives, while our manufacturing processes are continually refined to minimise waste and energy consumption. As our façades are non-standardised, we are able to choose from a wide variety of materials and suppliers. We only use what is necessary, high quality and fit for purpose, ensuring that we present a range of design solutions to be taken into account within the context of the project brief.

Environmental testing

Our in-house state-of-the-art testing facilities enable us to perform rigorous structural, thermal and acoustic calculations and modelling. This enables us to gather valuable data from performance mock-ups to validate design decisions that will ultimately affect the whole-life carbon of our products.

Production and installation

Our technical knowledge of the construction and operation of façades enables us to provide exceptional service and maintenance, improving the durability and service life of our façades. When we can maintain our own façades, we can de-risk future reuse potential for circular solutions.

Extending life through aftercare

Our technical knowledge of the construction and operation of façades enables us to provide exceptional service and maintenance, improving the durability and longevity of buildings.
