Foster + Partners
Apple Campus 2 is a new, integrated development offering sustainable, state-of-the-art office, research and supporting facilities on a 71 ha (176-acre) site in Cupertino, California. The focal point of the project is the Main Building, a 4-story circular building that comprises around 260,000 sqm (2.8 million sq ft) of gross area above ground and can accommodate up to 12,000 employees. The glass façade features 882 curved glass panels of special dimensions (up to 13,980x3,165 mm / 550x125 in) that required the invention of a customized manipulator. Two additional buildings house offices and research and development spaces. Campus amenities include a striking restaurant within the Main Building, a 1,000-seat Corporate Auditorium and a separate Corporate Fitness Center. The development’s overall energy needs are provided by renewable energy: the majority is generated on site through the use of photovoltaics and fuel cells with directed biogas.
